New Grid Definition

The New Grid Definition tool activates the Grid Definition Wizard. The wizard is used to create a new grid or graticule definition in the current model and contains the following pages.

Setting Description
General Information Provides input options to specify the grid type, name and scale. The scale is used to calculate the paper unit factor.
Grid Settings Contains options to select the coordinate system or unit that will be used by the grid definition. To use the coordinate system of the active model, choose 'Select only a unit'. The selected unit will be used throughout the rest of the wizard. To specify a coordinate system, choose 'Select a projected coordinate system'. Only projected coordinate systems are available when creating a grid. When creating a graticule, you must specify a coordinate system. Only geographic coordinate systems are available when creating a graticule.
Unit Selection This page enables you to choose the units to use to input the grid origin and intervals. It is also used to input paper dimensions.
Grid Intervals Provides input fields to specify the grid or graticule origin and the intervals that will be used to calculate the position of grid lines or tick marks. You can leave the origin set to 0,0 or specify the coordinate of any intersection point between horizontal and vertical lines.
Grid Lines or Cross Ticks The grid can be displayed with either grid lines running across the entire grid extent or by cross ticks at each grid intersection. This pages specifies the display symbology for the lines or the ticks. If the 'Cross Ticks option is selected, specify the weight and optionally select a cell.
Tick Marks Provides an option to enable the display of tick marks and set their symbology.
Labels Provides an option to enable the display of labels, their symbology and other display parameters.

When all options have been set, press Finish to complete the creation of the grid or graticule definition. The new definition will be added to the Definitions tab of the Grids and Graticules dialog. Selecting the definition will show the following parameters : general settings, labels, tick marks, cross ticks, units, intervals and grid lines.

Note: The names of all definitions must be unique.
